THE SIGN2LEARN Programme


Sign2Learn has developed a programme for the UK based on many similar programmes currently being successfully used in the USA and Canada by other Sign2Me presenters.

We do not want to force a child to be able to read and write fluently by the time they start school!
Our aim is to maximise your child's literacy potential in a playful and age-appropriate way.
Just as a child can recognise animals and remember the noises they make, it is also possible to teach a child to recognise some letters and help them to remember the sound they make.
For example, all children learn what a cow is and learn that the cow says 'Mooo'. Equally,they can learn to recognise the letter 'M' and learn that it says 'mmmm'. The physical fingerspelling action that goes along with the letter and sound helps the child to remember both better.


By using Finger-Spelling techniques based on British Sign Language, we create a multi-sensory approach which not only helps the child to remember the individual letters, but also the order of the letters in a word. This is something most other phonic programmes currently do not offer - but it is highly useful for remembering how to spell words correctly.
This is why the programme is especially useful for children with dyslexia or autistic spectrum disorder.
